Celebrating its 39th anniversary, UMBY cut a tumpeng (cone-shaped rice dish) and distributed 950 food packages to the community
A total of 950 food packages were distributed to residents around the campus as part of a series of non-academic activities.
UMBY Rector, Dr. Ir. Agus Slamet, S.TP., M.P., MCE., emphasized that the distribution of food packages is a tangible manifestation of the university's commitment not only in the academic field, but also in social care for the community.
"We express our gratitude to Allah SWT that, to this day, on its 39th anniversary, UMBY still stands tall, continues to exist, and keeps developing and achieving. Mercu Buana University Yogyakarta, formerly known as Wangsa Manggala University, was founded by Mr. H.R. Probosutejo on October 1, 1986, with the noble goal of expanding opportunities for the community to obtain higher education in order to participate in the intellectual development of the nation and strive for the welfare and glory of the Indonesian people. Angudi Mulyaning Bangsa," said Agus Slamet.
The distribution of basic necessities was enthusiastically welcomed by residents around the UMBY campus.
For them, this assistance is very meaningful amid the increasing cost of basic necessities.
Sutarmi, a resident of Sedayu, admitted that she was relieved to receive the assistance.
"Alhamdulillah, I am very grateful for this package of basic necessities. It contains everything, including rice, oil, and sugar. For us, the common people, assistance like this is very meaningful, especially as the end of the year approaches and household needs increase," she said.
Wahyu, another resident who was also present to receive the assistance, expressed a similar sentiment.
“We are grateful to UMBY for always caring for the surrounding community. Not only this time, but usually there are also other activities that involve the residents. Hopefully, the campus will continue to progress, and sharing activities like this can be carried out regularly,” he said.
At the age of 39, UMBY has recorded a number of achievements. The number of new students for the 2025/2026 academic year reached 1,429 with a total of 8,644 active students.
UMBY has also gained recognition in university rankings. According to UniRank, UMBY is ranked 103rd nationally, 11th in DIY for a combination of public and private universities, and 7th for private universities in DIY.
In the Edurank ranking, UMBY is in 138th place nationally and 8th in DIY. Meanwhile, Webometrics ranks UMBY 162nd nationally out of 4,523 PTNs and PTSs.
Currently, UMBY has 16 study programs, consisting of 1 professional program, 13 undergraduate programs, and 2 master's programs.
Four study programs have achieved Excellent accreditation, four study programs have A accreditation, and several other programs have B and Very Good accreditation.
In addition, UMBY has implemented an information security management system with ISO 27001:2013.
“In line with UMBY's vision, we want to become a leading university in the field of sociopreneurship at the national level with an international outlook by 2029,” said Agus Slamet.
This year, three UMBY lecturers successfully completed their doctoral studies, while 36 other lecturers are still pursuing their doctoral degrees at home and abroad.
The hope is that in the next 2-3 years, more than 60 percent of UMBY lecturers will hold doctoral degrees.
In terms of functional positions, UMBY now has 34 expert assistants, 79 lecturers, 21 senior lecturers, and 6 professors.
Three new professors were officially inaugurated this year.
The research field has also recorded achievements.
UMBY received research and community service funding from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology amounting to IDR 1.2 billion, as well as internal funding of more than IDR 3.1 billion.
The Mathematics Study Program received a grant from the Impactful Campus Competency Program worth IDR 403 million.
UMBY also recently ranked second nationally in receiving funding from the Community Empowerment Scheme Batch III Community Service Program.
UMBY's 39th anniversary involved academic activities such as international seminars, as well as non-academic activities, including social assistance, corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, pilgrimages to the founders' graves, fun walks, and celebrations.
Agus Slamet added that these achievements are valuable assets for the future.
“These achievements are very meaningful assets for UMBY to move forward. The entire UMBY academic community is committed to improving the quality of the Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Higher Education) services, not only at the national level, but also at the regional and international levels,” he said.
Going forward, UMBY plans to renovate campus facilities, complete the construction of the Teaching Farm Faculty of Agroindustry, increase the number of new students, expand research grants, and increase the number of professors.
Agus Slamet also expressed his appreciation to the Wangsamanggala Foundation, former rectors, the community around the campus, and the Sedayu Muspika.
